Femke Vindevogel is een Vlaamse schrijver/kunstenaar (°1978). Ze groeide op en studeerde in Oost-Vlaanderen, en woont nu in Jabbeke. Ze publiceerde in diverse literaire tijdschriften en bloemlezingen (o.a. Hollands Maandblad, Poëziekrant, Tirade).

Femke studeerde Muziekregentaat aan Hogent en Vrije Beeldende Kunst aan Sint-Lukas & de Academie van Gent en Brugge. Naast het schrijven is ze werkzaam als illustrator, muziekdocent en beeldend kunstenaar. (www.femkevindevogelart.com)

In het voorjaar van 2019 verscheen haar debuutroman Confituurwijk bij Uitgeverij Van Oorschot. Deze roman werd genomineerd voor de Bronzen Uil (debuutprijs) en won de publieksprijs van de Boekhandelsprijs.

In 2021 verscheen haar tweede roman Baksteen. Het boek werd lovend onthaald en de Duitse vertaalrechten werden na een bieding gekocht door Steidl Verlag.

Haar gedicht Ruzie, dat verscheen in de poëziekrant werd in 2019 genomineerd voor de Melopée Poëziewedstrijd (prijs voor meest beklijvende gedicht dat het afgelopen jaar in een literair tijdschrift werd gepubliceerd).

Haar gedicht Vechtscheiding werd in 2022 vertaald door ‘De Lage Landen) naar het Engels.

Het gedicht Inslag, dat verscheen in Het Liegend Konijn, won in 2023 de publieksprijs van de Melopee poëzieprijs.

ARTIST BIO

Femke Vindevogel, born in 1978 in Ghent, Belgium, is a queer contemporary artist & writer residing and working in Jabbeke, Belgium. She works primarily in acrylics and colored pencil and she paints as she writes: from the perspective of a detached observer, drawing her inspiration from the grand themes in her own life: the divorce she went through, the chronic migraines that made her a homebody, the escape she therefore finds in domestic and other banal things of little beauty that surround her in her daily life.

Vindevogel studied Fine Arts at Luca, School of Arts and the Acadamy of Fine Arts in Ghent from 1995 to 2007. Since 2008, the artist has lived and worked nearby Bruges, Belgium. The artist had her debut exhibition at Galerie Link (Now De Bruycker Fine Art Gallery in Antwerp) in Ghent in 2004. Since then, the artist had several exhibitions with De Bruycker.

Vindevogels work first came to prominence through powerful fresco’s on wood panel, experimenting with Japanese paper and organic materials. By the early 2010s, Vindevogel’s work became more subtile, exploring the possibilities of heavy bodied acrylic brushstrokes, oilpaint, thin washes and collage. Currently she’s working on her renewing Chair series that is leaning more towards realism then her previous work, using acrylics and colored pencil to create work that celebrates the beauty of domestic objects. She paints on pleated paper to emphasize the importance of imperfection. A constant in her work is the workability of the surface and the constantly scraping off and adding layers, a phase that stretches itself for weeks and months on end and that it very similar on how she writes novels and poetry.
